Engineered for rough handling
Vortex knows there are times when it's just plain hard to keep a handle on things. That's why the Viper features trend-setting optical components with engineering that anchors internal prisms in place for years of exceptional viewing. Let it rain. Let it snow. Let the wind blow up a dust storm. Nothing gets to the Viper—an absolutely dust proof, fog proof, and waterproof binocular!
•Complete waterproof protection keeps dust and water out of the optical system with tight O-ring seals. •Complete fogproofing of internal lenses presents clear views in spite of sudden temperature changes because of argon-purged optics. •Metal-reinforced eyecups are tough, durable, finished with a rubber coating, and made to endure constant wear. •Tapered multi-position eyecup style provides a more natural fit to your eyes and comfortable, full-field viewing with eyeglasses. •Lightweight chassis promises extreme performance in a compact, 23-ounce package. •Ribbed rubber armor ensures a solid, comfortable grip even if wearing gloves.
Argon gas purging.
This advanced process protects your Viper binocular in the following ways:
•Argon gas does not absorb or react chemically with water. •Argon gas eliminates internal fogging. •Argon gas maintains its protective properties over a wider temperature range. •Argon gas does not diffuse as quickly as other elements, extending the service life of the optics longer.

- 5 star
- An extremely good pair of 8x42's. A highly recommended pair of binoculars for anyone seeking something of high image and build quality without spending over $2000 yet competing at close or equal to that level.
I'd like to, and perhaps should, award the full 5 stars for the Viper HD as there is very little to complain about if anything.
The field of view could be wider but then again it wouldn't be considered narrow for an 8x42 as 116m at 1000m is pretty decent.
Brightness, colour, sharpness are excellent and the build quality tops of the enjoyment of using this awesome bit of gear. I'm a fan of Japanese made gear so these being made in Japan rather than China is another bonus for me and in my experience lends to higher quality.
If you're after a product of high image and build quality without the 2K price tag the Viper HD is for you. (Posted on 6/10/2017)
